Eighty yearsago the specifier had only to pull out a standard swing check valve specification and add it to the system plans regardless of location orapplication. Today, however, engineers weigh the importance of slamming characteristics, headloss, cost of purchase and cost of maintenance when making a check valve selection. Val-Matichas utilized the same criteria in the design of our five different check valvelines. Available in a wide range of metallurgies, seating materials andoptions, Val-Matic is prepared to meet your check valve needs. From potable water, to abrasive slurries, and even corrosive chemicals! "SURGEBUSTER" The SURGEBUSTER® is a swing check valve thatfully meets ANSI/AWWA C508. But here is where the similarities to traditional swing check valves end. The SURGEBUSTER® achieves rapid closure througha short disc stroke of 35° and adjustable Disc AcceleratorTM. The short disc stroke isless than half the typical 80° to 90° stroke of a conventional swing check valve. It is achieved byplacing the valve seat on a 45° angle while maintaining a full flow area equal tothe mating pipe (Figures 1 & 2.)
The Disc AcceleratorTM is a precision formed stainless steel mechanism that closes thevalve discrapidly thus avoiding slamming by flow reversal and yet allowing the disc to be stabilized under flow conditions. The accelerator is fully enclosed within the valve and completely out of the flow path.
